Hola!

I’m Tania, a brown woman who grew up in a mixed family. In my day job, I am a science and policy journalist and make a daily kids’ podcast (in French). I speak five-ish languages, have lived in six countries (mostly in Europe), and am raising multicultural, plurilingual kids with my beloved.

This is us. Coucou !

I’ve imagined Home Mixed Home as an online nook where we celebrate and (try to) untangle, together, the joyful mess of living in a multicultural family. Basically, I’m writing the newsletter that I need to read: to explore questions big and small that come up in mixed relationships and parenting, and to gather other thoughtful people so we can figure it out together and have a bit of a moan chuckle.

Why subscribe?

  • To reflect and learn from the pros. I will ask researchers, practitioners, multicultural families, and other smart folks for their insights, and will share the process with you. I’m not here to tell you how to raise your kids, or that you should have date nights every X weeks. I’m after gentle a-ha moments, ways to reframe our experiences, and inspiration that might guide real-life tweaks.

  • To feel less lonely. Maybe you live in a cosmopolitan city where most of your friends have a multicultural background. Or maybe (like me) you are in a small-ish place that feels homogeneous or sometimes isolating, and want to surround yourself with (online) pals who get it. Either way: the more, the merrier.

  • To save time. I’m a voracious reader and listener (and binge-watcher). I share my favourite articles, podcasts, books, songs, etc. related to multicultural family life, so you can go straight to the juicy bits.

  • To make your life easier. You’ll get every post sent directly to your inbox and will never miss an update.

When and where to read Home Mixed Home

I’ll send you occasional emails. I know your time and inbox space is precious, and I vow to tread lightly. (You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link at the bottom of each of my emails.)

You can also access the archive on the website here, or read posts on the Substack app or using its web reader (it’s especially convenient if you subscribe to a bunch of newsletters).

Big up
